Canoe Trip Residency on the Youghiogheny River: June 8 - 14, 2017

The first residency for RiverRoute will bring together artists from everywhere paired with art supporters and adventurers for a week of shared creativity on and around our Rivers. The long weekend canoe trip will feature invited Canadian New Media Artist, Megan Smith.


RiverRoute will be kicked off on Thursday June 8th with a Cocktail Party at an art venue (where attendees will get some behind the scenes tour/talk) that will also be open to Local Art Supporters to mix and mingle with the Artists and Adventurers. On Friday, June 9th, Everyone on the trip is invited will go on local studio visits and to local museums with curators (it is understood if local Adventurers or artists have day jobs that they do not have to attend). The Canoe trip will take place from the evening of Friday June 9th - Sunday June 11th on the Youghiogheny River for the Artists and Adventurers.

Artists participating in RiverRoute will then work in Lori Hepner’s studio at 57th Street Studios in Lawrenceville on Monday - Wednesday , June 12th - 14th. Production of work will take place at Techshop Pittsburgh on the morning of Wednesday June 14th. A mini exhibition of the work created during the week will take place at either Techshop Pittsburgh or 57th Street Studios, which will be open to the public after an exclusive preview with the local arts supporters on the evening of Wednesday June 14th.

 

 

 

The subsidized rate for Local Artists to participate in all of the events of the residency, including 2 parties, 3 day, 2 night canoe trip residency, 3 day mini-studio residency, and inclusion in the pop up exhibition is $250. Sponsorships will cover the difference between the real rate and the subsidized rate.  It is assumed that Local Artists have lodging available to them during the mini-studio residency.

 

The residency rate for Local Adventurers to apply includes the 2 parties,  3 day, 2 night canoe trip residency, and a +1 admittance for the pop-up exhibition is $450.  It is assumed that Local Adventurers have lodging available to them outside of the weekend canoe trip from June 9th - 11th, where we will be camping.

 

For Artists & Adventurers from Elsewhere, there are add on packages available that add on lodging for the 5 nights we are in Pittsburgh (June 8th, & June 11th - 15th). Or, you can secure your own lodging for these nights and pay the local rates.

 

Starving Artist Lodging: Couches and Air Mattresses of Local Supporters: $150 add on

 

Hotel Option #1: Your own room in a king or queen bed. Hipster-certified, bar & restaurant downstairs. $1000 add on.

 

Hotel Option #2: Your own bed in a 2 queen room (sharing with someone from the trip). Hipster-certified, bar & restaurant downstairs. $500 add on.

 

The residency will begin accepting applications for Artists and Adventurers on January 24, 2017.
